Fuel Tank Union

Can anyone tell me what size the union is on the pipe that connects to the fuel tank?

The reason is that I have to install a rear mounted fuel pump (close to the tank) and so I could do with a small length of pipe coming from the tank to the pump, which will be a lot easier (and safer) if I can buy a proper union & pipe as opposed to making one from the old line!!

Should be 1/4"BSP.
I can e-mail you an article concerning a possible problem with the connection, if you wish.

I tried to find suppliers of 1/4" BSP fuel unions but ended up with NPTF, Minisport in Lancashire have a good range of bits, but they are all NPTF (seems odd considering that the mini is British and NPTF is an American fitting!). This would suggest that they may be compatible, but upon further searching I found that BSP has 19 threads per inch, where as NPTF has 18 threads per inch, otherwise they are the same, and apparently 1/2" NPFT will jam if mated to a BSP fitting.....

I think I will ring Minisport tomorrow, but I would appreciate anyone's advice on the compatability or possible suppliers of bits!

Thanks again,

Hi
Have you tried a m/cycle shop for the union? Most British classics had Union fittings.
Note; When fitting rear P/Pump make sure you have a "Pusher" type ,not a "Puller", ie; Standard Minor are "Pullers".It was usual to use a heavy duty one..............Ivor...........

Thanks tuning72,

I did not consider motorcycle shops! What a good idea! :D

Yep, the pump is a "Pusher" type, which is why I have to rear mount it, it would be better if I had an uprated "Puller" type which I could just swap for the standard pump, but I don't. But I do have an uprated "Pusher" type lying around doing nothing.

Thanks for the advice.
