What do owners who have a collection of cars do about insurance? My brother and I usually have around ten cars between us, mostly classics. They tend to be not high value and we only need third party cover so we can legally use any of them. We've never found a policy that caters for us, the insurance companies seem to regard you as either a private motorist or a motor trader. We've ended up with a motor traders policy for the last few years but although we think we've got a good deal we are not traders.

The MMOC scheme through Footman James allows you to add many Minors to the same policy. It is very cost effective.

Just out of interest - how much do you pay for the Trader policy ?? And is it just 3rd party.

We have a joint policy on which we are currently paying about £400 third party. We previously had a traders policy with Footman James until they wrote to us a year ago telling us they could no longer supply a suitable policy. We are not complaining, we believe we have a fair deal (subject to whatever is the next renewal premium we receive in a couple of months time) and it means we can drive anything. Its just that we dont like having to pretend to be traders when we are not.

Try RH Insurance, they may be able to offer the correct cover and they get good feedback on Minor forums(fora?)
