Roof replacement

I bought a car that has had a shed collapse on it. Someone has done a poor job of panel beating it and "iced" the roof with bog. I think that I can improve it by using a hammer and dolly to a stage which will be presentable with only the slightest of bog. Although there is some damage to the interal gutter that will e difficult.

However the car came with a spare roof and I can be really fussy about finish, so I'm contimplating the replacement.

The replacement roof has been cut off below the waist line. The A pilars I will cut and join as per usual for such a job, and the b pilar I shall rejoin at the original interface. Across the back i have two choices, to remove the old roof altogether and rejoin at the original interface or to cut through from either side of the rear window and join here.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has attempted any such work.

Matt,
I'd try & stick with the original roof if at all possible. Roof replacement is a big job, especially getting the alignment spot on.
My '48 was totalled (rolled) just after it's first resto  . The panel beater was supposed to replace the roof by drilling out the original spotwelds & was supplied a roof just as you describe. He took the easy way out & cut through the pillars. Now the windscreen aperture is too big (high) & I had to have one of the side window made to suit the odd shaped aperture :x .

It it's a two-door and the roof is as bad as you say, would you consider converting the car to being a rag-top? Several UK Minor suppliers sell kits to do this, although shipping would be costly...

Unfortunately its a four door so the convertible option is out, novel solution though. I think I'll have a go with the hammer and dolly, and my patience and see how well go. Thanks for the replies guys.

Ah but that Green one is made from 2 cars, if you see it with the hood down you can see what has been done as the front part of the roof is still retained and if you look in the back floor there is a stepped section.

I think it has a van chassis too. If it's this one you are on about:

Yes Cam you are correct it does have a van chassis and that was the one I was thinking off, the one Nikki mentioned does not have a true convertible hood, just a giant sort of sunroof.
