I recently fitted a heating element to my rear windscreen, it works fine on the flick of the switch. I just decided to fit a warning light to it but wherever i fit it in the circuit the light comes on with the switch but the heater then fails to work, it seems it just won't accept anything else in the circuit. I've tried fitting it on a relay, the relay clicks when you switch it on but the heater still doesnt work Ideas?

How on 'earth' did you connect the warning light...........? Across the switch ??

Presumably you are connecting the warning light with one connection on the same side of the switch as the screen heater, or feed to relay, and the other to the body (earth)?

Sounds like you have put the light in series with the switch and the light is acting as aresister. You could fit a light up switch which is what I have on mine

I had the light connected in series to the circuit, tried fitting it both before and after the switch but the heater didn't work so yes it must have been acting as a resistor. I've now fitted it in parrallel with its own separate wire from the switch and it's working fine.

Could you tell me where you got your heating element or was it a new old stock kit as I want to fit one to mine thanks

hiya, sorry but this one was fitted on my parents traveller when they bought it so i've no idea where you can buy them, I think it had been there a long time! To be honest I havent really seen any similar ones.[frame][/frame]

I got an old style stick on type heating element,off ebay.
fitting it was a night mare,(last one i did was 40 years ago ,I must have had much more tolerance and very steady fingers!!!!!)
I broke the element with the very last spade fitting and spent over three hours making and mending,but its done and looks the buzz

i've tried 4 times to upload a picture,will keep on trucking

Hi thanks for that I have seen the heated rear screens but to be honest I cant really justify the price If I could get hold of one of those old kits I would have a go thanks for your reply.
