Need MMOC letter of confirmation

Hi all, I own a 1963 convertible and have recently bought a 1956 4door split with trafficators. when I sent the log book off to have change of owner, they returned it and now says its a 1966 :o . I have contacted DVLA and they have asked if the club can give a letter of authenticity which confirms the year as 1956. can someone tell me who I would approach regarding this and also is it something the club would do. Or will I for ever be banished to having it as a 1966

Look forward to any replies.........

Joe

Amazing - how on earth would they decide to take 10 years off it's age. Do the chassis and engine numbers match up with the details on the V5c?? What form does the Reg Number have - you don't have to tell us the actual Reg Number if you don't want to - just what the form is ie 3 numbers followed by 3 letters or whatever it is.

I was gobsmacked, surely they can look at the previous document and see and say they made a mistake. looks like they are saying its probably human error and I would now need to prove it  . Just as well I had noticed it or it could of made my insurance VOID.
Here he is............

Reg is 3 letters followed by 3 numbers.

The Club has provided this service in the past for club members who are having problems with the DVLA. Contact Rob Thomasson, the technical tips guy - details are in Minor Matters.

Well - it clearly IS a 1956 car and NOT a 1966 car - it even still has the early high raised rear wings - many lose them over the years.... Did you not keep a copy of the original document? Do you have any old documents for the car - old MOTs and so on? And of course - the original buff 'folded card' Reg Document would be the very best evidence !

Why should the DVLA expect an MMOC official to waste his time correcting the DVLA's mistakes. I have had errors on my documentation rectified by sending photocopies of the original docs. Send copies of the vehicle's paperwork and Production
Trace Certificate if you have one, together with a strongly worded letter.
NEVER send original docs, they will not be returned

This seems very strange!

What date was on the V5C from the previous owner?

Maybe there were some changes made by a previous owner. The DVLC have copies of all the previous V5C documents, that you can request. Then you can find if and when a mistake was made.

Hi guys, sorry for the delay in replying, festivities etc etc. Thank you all for replying. The only documents I have with the vehicle is old MOT's but they dont have the year on them. There wasn't any original documents with it :( and the previous V5 had 56 on it, as I checked this when I bought it. The plums at DVLA would not admit the fault and now im left running around trying to justify myself  Im spitting blood over this, and dont know which way to turn, as iv'e never encountered anything like this in the past. I own two VW splitties, a Citroen H van, and another 63 Morris Minor convertible, and never had this happen.

An interior shot..............

Iv'e now emailed Rob, to seek advice and hope to see some results, otherwise im stuck with it.

Once again, thank you for your input and hope your Xmas and New Year runs smoother than mine. 8)

A copy of the Production Trace Certificate from BMIHT and a photo of the chassis plate should suffice

It's just ridiculous - you should be able to speak to someone senior at DVLA. Kick up a fuss! The business of legally dating a car should not rely on a Club that has to be joined.

Not cheap:

So why won't the old V5 suffice? Do you have a local DVLA centre you can pop into? TBH I'd be spitting feathers over it too. The incompetent bunch of idiots.

Speak to a manager - and don't let it go. If they don't still have the old V5 you sent them - they must surely have the computer record and it will surely show if/when any changes were made ! It seems a trivial thing - but I would tell them you are going to get your MP involved if they don't sort it all out.

You can send the DVLA £5 and get copies of all the old V5s that they have on record, then just send copies back to them pointing out the error. Ok it costs £5 and two stamps, but cheaper than a BMHT dating certificate, and more satisfying using the DVLA's own records to show how wrong they are....
Also you get details of the cars history which is always nice to have.

Other way, is to kick up an almighty fuss till they put it right, as suggested. Personal experience suggests that the bods at the local DVLA office are more human and accessable than those at Swansea....

I'm thinking the Wimbledon office may be the nearest?

http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/contactus/lo ... ffice.aspx

Download the V888 fill it in and request your vehicle history... like mentioned the cost is about £5. Send it to the DVLA swansea.

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/DoItO ... G_10016794

When this information arrives use it to question the change in registration date by popping down to your local DVLA office.

tell the idiots at DVLA that split screens were long gone out of production by 1966. there is so much proof available it is unbelievable.

tell the idiots to check their 'system' again.

A Production Trace Certificate gives the build spec and history of the car. After you have sent a copy to the DVLA you can frame it and hang it on the wall
