Change of ignition switch barrel

Hi folks,
I recently bought a new matching lock-set for Mog -- comes with the door barrel (on the passenger side

), boot barrel, and ignition barrel. I've successfully changed the door barrel (and mounted the door), and I'm quite sure I can do the boot barrel, but the ignition switch is really giving me pause. Here's the kicker: the ignition switch, while certainly the early pull-start type with only two positions, doesn't look like the early pull-start type that ESM and Bull Motif show; instead, it's just a smooth cylinder, with two contacts on the back, and a chrome ring that goes on the dash around the barrel, and it's held in by a screw-up nut that wraps around the cylinder. There appears to be no pin through the cylinder, and I can't get the chrome ring off.
I'll take photos tomorrow, but I wondered if you might be familiar with it. How do I get the old barrel out and the new one in???
Also, how exactly does it go in the dash? I can't remember how I got it out!

Fitting to the dash is the easy part, it is inserted from behind the dash and then the chrome ring screwed on. The back nut is used to adjust the seating so that the chrome ring is tight when flush with the end of the barrel. When you post the pictures, we can take a stab at the other part of your question.

Well, here are the promised photos.[frame]

Any ideas?

I can't figure out how to get that tapered front chrome ring off. Gently tapping with a hammer on a screwdriver, and veeerrry carefully trying to rotate it with vice grips, does nothing.

Im afraid that your lock isnt a standard minor one and the new one may not fit it. As far as I know new barrels arent available for pull start cars only the later ones with the combined key start.

Hmm, that's odd. I was afraid of that. Well...I want to try...has anyone ever seen a switch like this?

Will it go in from the front and tighten the nut up from the rear might not be a good fit though?

You can buy the repro Lucas equivalent of that (your pictured) switch without barrel and key. Provided your dash hole is not too big you are good to go!
Moss Motors sell under part number 141-300 $21.95 US
I believe it is the Lucas part 30608 (31899 S45), which also replaces/supercedes Lucas 31403, 31441, 31449, 31886, 31913, 31934, 31962, 31968,

You might find a cheaper used one, they were used on MGA, Austin Healey 3000 and Jag Mk2 amongst others.

The chrome ring doesn't come off on that style of switch, remove the small screws, take the big nut off, insert from the front, etc, etc, etc.
You can use the newer one w/the combined key start, just ignore the key start part of it.

Aha, well, I appreciate everyone's help! But it turned out it wouldn't go in the dash because I was being overly cautious. A bit of force (not very much, even!) and it popped right in, and it looks good sitting at home.[frame]

So I suppose I'll have two keys anyhow, until I get enough money to buy one of the proper switches.
