Hi, Rufus,
on my '58 I have a simple steel rod that holds up the boot lid. I'm not sure it is original to the car, but it sure looks easy enough to duplicate: 90 degree angle on one end (last inch) with a small hole drilled through it to accept a cotter pin; the other end ground to a taper to fit into the bracket on the body, and as for length- long enough to reach from the mounting bracket on the lid to the spring clip on the lid. Pop down to the hardware store for a piece of steel and in 30 minutes you're in business!

Contact Pop's Place at Lowestoft, a reliable and reasonable source of second-hand parts that one cannot buy new.
