Hi,
I've noticed that since its been cold the ignition light will go off immediately on starting up but then comes back on a bit dimmer and takes a long time to go off again. Is this normal while the car is warming up? I've noticed it sometimes comes on again while driving, sort of just flickering on and off. Any ideas?

Hello RTanguy,
no, it's not normal, the first check is the tightness and condition of your fan belt.
After that it depends if you have a dynamo or an alternator?

Re: Ignition Light
When the light comes on your battery isn't being charged up. For the time being charge it up at home regularly, just so you aren't left somewhere with a flat battery.
If you have a dynamo, it could be sticking brushes. I have never had to mess with one of these, therefore a moggy manual should give you the detail how to repair. I'll PM you a link to an online version if you don't have one.

Re: Ignition Light
As above - fan belt - if it's loose fit a new one because a belt that has been slipping will break shortly after tightening......
And yes - it could be a warning that the dynamo (or alternator) brushes are worn......

Re: Ignition Light
As above and also check the earth strap from the engine block to the bodywork - you could be grounding via the clutch cable only!

Morris Minors do not have clutch cables, it is a rod linkage

Quite right Mike - I meant choke cable. Gets hot and can causes all sorts of interesting sparks.mike.perry wrote:Morris Minors do not have clutch cables, it is a rod linkage
