Changing rear boot handle barel...

Can anybody tell me how to replace the boot lock barel? My project is a one key car, amazingly, but the boot handle simply pulls out of the lock mechanism! Ie the square bar is not held in - I think something must be broken... so want to change the handle but retain the barrel - how is this done?
Thanks!

the square bar passes through the latch mechanism and is held in place by a screw which screws down the centre of the shaft, if you do not have the screw it will fall out.. what i am trying to get to.. is the square shaft broken?

Ah! The end of the bar is blank - ie no screw hole... which makes me think I could drill a small hole and then use a long thin self tapper to hol it in place!!

Hmnnn... checked and it is not supposed to be held on by a screw - I think something is broken inside: so does anybody know how to change the barel - ie can I get this barel out and fit it to a new handle? Cheers!

When you have the bootlock out is there 2 small studs in the chrome handle bit as this is what keep the handle in position and you access the nuts from inside the bootlid(a bit fiddly).
With the handle out and the key in the lock there is spring and a top hat shaped washer that keeps the handle mechanism in place and a small pin that holds in the lock barrel. Withdraw the pin with a pliers or use a small screw driver to push the pin out and with the key in the barrell the lock should wriggle out.
It's something like that anyway but it quite a simple job once you see how things are done just remember how it goes back together and don't drop/lose any of the small bits
