I want to repaint the grille on my 1970 saloon but dont have a workshop manual, is it easy to remove the grille or is it better to paint in situe.

you will have to take the bumper off, hockey sticks, the bolts at the bottom and top left and right pair of bolts, to remove the front panel first, and then you can take the grill out,
to get a good finish this is the way to go, or you can hand paint in situ, not so good a finish though

it is also possible to spray the grill whilst it is in place, but probably a lot of effort for the end result. If you want a quick result then I'd handpaint and if you want the best result, you have to take it all apart.
The sownside of taking it apart is that the nuts on the back of the chrome trim can be difficult and don't be surprised if some of the studs break off

I sprayed mine without too much hastle. Turned out a right classy finish too. No spray over onto the bodywork, chrome or rad either. You just have to slot loads of card down between the rad and push balls of screwed up paper into the crevices on both sides of the grill. Well mask off the bodywork and chrome too and all should be fine.

If I remember right you could aso take the slatted grille section out without taking the whole front panel, bumpers, chrome etc off. If you take the radiator out, can you not undo the 4 screws and get the grille out the back? or is the rear plate the radiator attaches to in the road?

That a good remark from someone from the region of Heavy Beer
I think I may have spotted your car on the Sunday Rupert is it not the infamous colour of Highway Yellow, if so does it match the family Tartan

I'm from Burton on trent so I don't think that actually applies to me

!
I'm afraid my car wasn't there on the sunday as we disapeared for few halves of shandy on the saturday night with my dad (ok it was the rain

) and didn't come back! quite glad of it now as we must have missed the traffic jams!

Sorry about that Rupert but I am sure there was a Highway Yellow car travelling from Scotland with an owner named Rupert, it just goes to show what old age and an even older memory does for you

oops crossed wires!

We
were there but only on the Saturday (due to shandy tendancies

) And I grew up in Burton (the home of beer) but now live in Scotland! ( hence the heavy / light beer remark)Hey this would all be easier if we were all stood around in a pub with a pint wouldn't it!
