Sounds like a real bodge up - surely the supplier provides a suitable filter!

yes that sounds mad. although I have mastered the old design now. just remember to use the middle width o ring or it will never seal.

Interesting. I take it that the big bolt is hollow, but how does it seal?

The big bolt is hollow has 6 small holes around the top of it for the oil to flow into the filter, it should seal the same as other oil filters when you screw it up tight

I see that Moss sells an adaptor kit which includes a bolt like yours, but also a "sandwich plate" that goes between block and filter, as well as a bunch of o-rings. Did your seller include anything else?

Try this: mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/of100b.htm. Moss Motors spin-on oil filter adapter kit 235-940.

What you've bought is part of a conversion kit. There should be a thick adapter plate that seals against the existing housing, and is held on by one of those bolts. The other bolt provides the mounting point for the spin-on filter that is used for all the conversions. The complete kit does allow you to retain the existing filter head, if that's what you want to do. Those bolts on their own are just scrap metal. Sorry.

Yes - I have seen something similar with a sandwich plate - frankly I don't like the look of it (and you are missing the important part anyway) - the six small holes will surely limit the oil flow, especially when cold. Send it back for a refund - and buy the correct kit if you feel you must go 'screw-on'.

Looking at those Moss pictures, I now recall having an MGB with such an arrangement many decades ago. I don't recall anything else, which suggests a) it didn't give problems or 2) my memory is shot!
