Speedo and heater issues

I'm the proud recent owner of a 1969 Traveller and have a couple of small problems I wonder if anyone can help me with:

1.A 'clicking' from the back of the speedo which increases in line with road speed, speedo and mileometer work ok (cable ?)

2.The heater blows only luke warm even after a long run.

As you've probably guessed I'm no mechanic so go easy on me !

Any advice greatly appreciated

the heaters never blow much more than luke warm.. when compared to a modern car.. but check you have pushed the heater control in all the way, it is under the dash next to the steering column, i recall. The way to check is that the heater take off is at the back of the engine.

as for the speedo, it might be the cable or could be in the speedo head. take the speedo head off and pull the inner cable out grease it .. sparingly or the grease will go into the speedo head and ruin it.

If that does not resolve the problem I can send you a pdf manual on stripping the speedo.

hi either the engine is running cold ish or the valve isn't fully opening from the engine to the heater, also does your heater cable ,(if fitted) work? it is also possible the heater matrix needs flushing if somewhat blocked .does the main hose from your engine to the rad get hot?
last message posted almost the same time as mine !!!!

my heater is very warm and made me sweat in the summer till i got a new valve ,now is almost controllable but still very warm

Fit a nice new 88 degree thermostat - which will improve the heater output considerably. Best heater output is obtained with the bypass hose eliminated - but this involves a wee bit of work. Another 'trick' is to move the intake end of the heater fresh air trunk inboard of the radiator - secured near the top - it is then drawing in air that has been pre-heated by the rad. Possible downside is that if the engine is 'fumy' - you may get some nasty smells/fumes in the car.....

If that lot does not work you can disconnect the heater pipes, connect a garden hose to the heater pipe, and gently turn the tap on. That should flush out the heater matrix

My brand new GPO Moggy van only ever blew warm air out (as already said, not as hot as modern car)
As I was a subs app & line maintenance man travelling short distances from job to job (half mile max) the engine never got to its max working temp anyway.
Totally blanking the radiator off with cardboard helped.
