Preparing to paint my car and removing the rubber seal that seperates the ali part of the roof from the steel over cab will make it a lot cleaner.Does it simply pull off or is it fixed somehow.Arent bothered about ruining it as i intend fitting a new one

Type 'Roof sealing strip. Traveller' into search box at top right of screen and you should discover a post from 2007 where someone else has already done this - Good luck

It is T-shaped, and clamped firmly between the steel of the front section and a thick wooden batten. Remove the headlining (slide the front forwards and the rear backwards) to reveal a large number of bolts that hold the whole lot together. You might also have to slacken the bolts that hold the wood to the B-post. It's an awful lot of work compared to masking tape, and there's a chance that it will leak after it's been disturbed. Could do the old window rubber trick of lifting it slightly and putting a bit of string under it - ergo letting 'some' paint seep beneath its raised edges when spraying.
Obviously careful not to disturb too much (in case of leaks!)

Yes I can try.On having a second look its very stiff but still maybe possible to lift it whilst spraying and looks like some time in the past someones painted it black!

Standard practice in the trade. An electrical cable wire works best, I imagine string would be a bit soft.

Presumably you have to let the paint set very hard before attempting to remove the string/cable..... I guess it's just one of the many 'tricks of the trade' that this excellent forum keeps on bringing to the surface!

No need, as long as the paint is dry no problem. There will not be enough under there to stick the cable to the body.

Just got around to doing this.It wasnt too bad after all.Had to remove a small amount of wood round the bolt heads to get the socket on.It was well trapped between the roof sections and had to be forced out.Glad I took it out though as there were a few layers of paint from previous resprays under the edge.BTW whats the procedure with the slight gap between the front and rear gutter channels?Is it just apply a bit of sealant to make a bridge between them?
