NEC 2011
Went up to the NEC with a few of the other lads from the Dorset Branch and it was good to see 2 proper Minors on the club stand. Ray Newells fantastic Lowlight Tourer and Andrew Stones newly restored left hand drive Tourer. Both outstanding cars and correct down to the last detail.

Re: NEC 2011
The dizzy is 180 deg opposite to mine, the plug leads would be swapped to compensate

Our other car is a 2009 Citroen C6 3.0 HDi a 'future classic' and far rarer than a Morris Minor!!
The 'moggie' has been replaced with another 'classic' a 1953 Citroen Traction Avant 11BL

Re: NEC 2011
The orientation of the distributor depends on the position of the drive shaft on the camshaft. As long as the plug leads are fitted in the correct order starting with whichever contact in the distributor cap the rotor arm is pointing to when no 1 piston is at TDC then it does not matter which way the distributor is pointing.
Incidently if you have a water pump then it is easier to set the timing before fitting the radiator or you will not be able to see the timing arrow on the timing chain cover

Re: NEC 2011
The correct position of the dizzy rotor arm and HT leads as per the
Morris Workshop manual USHM2 sidevalve and (A series) backed up with
Ray's "Original Morris Minor" pictures on page 29,31,37 includes ALTA also confirmed with
Morris 8 1935 onwards manual.
Here also a picture of a well known early MM...trace the HT leads and note the dizzy position [frame]

Re: NEC 2011
If the distributor drive gear is assembled as per Sect. A19 and the cam in the distributor is in the correct position and not 180 deg out which is quite possible, then the distributor should end up in the recommended position, If it does not then the engine will still run satisfactorily provided the aforementioned conditions a complied with.

Getting everything set correctly as per the workshop manual gives you sidevalve upperlimits ......

Hi
The engine was painted red by the factory, the lighting in the NEC is so poor it makes it look orange !
It has to come out again as the engine has a terminal knock despite being rebuilt twice !

Re: NEC 2011
Check that the centre main bearing shells have been fitted the correct way round, only one shell has an oil feed hole and if the shells are fitted the wrong way round you will get no oil feed to the big ends = equals knock.
