This might be an obvious question but..... I am fitting a 1275 head to my 1098 engine and have hit a snag. There is no bypass stub on the new head. Is it possible to just fit a later Mini water pump and just do away with the by pass hose completely? Tried getting the bit of pipe off the old head but too much rust and swearing for a man of my age

You will have to block off the bypass outlet from the head, I think that it is a screw thread?

If you re read the thread he is fitting a 1275 head without bypass take off which is why he needs a metro or mini later water pump without bypass take off...

Oops, I was thinking about the 1098 pump

I have seen people use a bolt in the bypass hose to blank of a standard water pump for the conversion your doing, but replacing the pump with no bypass outlet drilled out in it is the best practice....

It's ideal to have no bypass hose - and you may find you need to file the top flange of the pump to get clearance for the head to seat right down. Blocking the water pump stub with a short length of hose and a bolt works perfectly well. If you want to be able to shut the heater tap - drill 2 X 1/8" holes in the thin rim of the thermostat to allow a little water to circulate. If you don't drill the holes - the heater works v much better..... I assume you know about getting enough exhaust valve clearance with this head???
