Morris Minor Owners Club

I have to put a switch into my 2 door Morris Minor but I am not sure which is the best way to do it, can any one give me some ideas

just avoid fitting it (post edited by LouiseM).. because that is where every one puts it and the thieves know it..

When you say "have to put a switch..." might one enquire why it has to be fitted, and for what function will it be used - but if it's security related, then, as noted above, don't go into details in open forum!

I have not given the game away... thieves know to look there, it is like leaving spare keys to your house under a plant pot at the front of your house... fitting the switch where i stated defeats the object of the exercise.. and if that is where you have fitted your secret switch roy i suggested you move it..

Indeed I have not -but i bet many have - and you are directly aiding and abetting the thieves by putting this on the open forum. You obviously have no conscience or care for your fellow Minor owners...... But then nothing surprises me these days.

I think a good solution is to fit a proper alarm and imobiliser,if you do fit a secret switch make sure its not within easy reach of the drivers seat,but having said that if its to difficult to use,there is always the temptation not to bother I also use a physical steering lock but you don't have to be a genius.......etc
There is a big difference between stopping an inexperienced opportunity thief and a determined professional who really wants your car

You haven't, and agreed with lambrettalad on this one, its only really about deterring the opportunist thief, so giving away any basic info is a bad idea. I agree that the post should be deleted asap..

Agreed with the above. It will not deter the well-researched thief, but simple measures like this may well deter the opportunist who fancies an unusual joy-ride.

My point exactly - most thieves are just chancers looking for a joy-ride. They won't have done any research or have any idea about Minors. You just can't hope to stop a determined thief. But if word gets around about anti-theft methods - it certainly can't help the situation.

I've edited the relevant post. Whilst I agree that 'experienced' car thieves may well know the likely places for a hidden switch the opportunist or 'beginner' thief, or the thief who hasn't previously attempted to steal a Minor, may not. As stated previously, it really isn't a good idea to post any information here which could potentially assist a car thief, regardless of how small a risk it is considered to be.

I'll leave the thread here so that anyone who can help martinmorris can contact him via pm. so they won't be looking on forums for top tips...

the best solution, although more effort, is to physically immobilise the car by disconnecting or removing something under the bonnet.

i myself have multiple hidden switches, and a steering wheel lock for when i'm in particularly dodgy areas!
