Could anyone tell me the number of degrees stamped on the distributor cam for a standard 1098 high compression engine please?

Not absolutely sure les- but I think it's 13 degrees or thereby. That would give 26 degrees advance + ~ 4/6 degrees static setting = 30/32 degrees total advance which is about right.

Thanks Roy, I'm running a 13 now, so maybe ok, I've got a 17 which might be a bit much but I'm tempted to try it.

Well -I have hacked a bit off mine (ohh errrr...) - as long as it doesn't pink, that's the main thing. It's a question of getting a nice idle which depends on the static advance - and the correct advance when running. So you may end up with zero static advance - but at least that makes for easy starting! I would try it - what's to lose??

Ticks over quite nicely at the mo, but as you say, worth trying the other one, hardly major work!
