been brave today and torqued down the cylinder head after doing 500 miles, since having had the head gasket replaced.i just went by the manual and then did the valve clearences.i dont know why i was worried about doing it .it was quite straight forward.as a special treat changed the oil and filter.the only bad thing was when parking the car in the garage i got too close the the bbq and scratched the wing not too bad but enough to annoy me .

Hopefully the BBQ can be repaired easily enough........ I'm not in favour of disturbing the head gasket after it's been 'set' - it should be re-torqued after the first heat cycle, and that should be enough. Did you find the nuts moving round much? And hopefully, the plate and spring are present and correct under that oil filter element!

how about this....... i fitted an engine earlier in the year. i fitted a new gasket, torque'd it down to 45lb and drove 25 miles. lifter rocker cover, checked 2 different nuts, both 45lb, re-fitted the cover and then drove the car 560 miles to scotland from surrey! stayed a few days, then drove the 560 miles back to surrey. on return, i re-checked (don't know why!) and it was still the same. i even managed to use 1/3rd of a pint of oil in the process.......

Dellerie, why just check 2 nuts when it would take another minute to recheck them all?
