relay in boot?

Post by //no.comment »

Is this safe thing to do?

It is very close to the fuel tank and a spark creating relay might not be a good idea? or am i being overly cautious?

I currently am planning to a relay into my sub woofer setup as just relying on the remote on function drains the battery over the period of a few days? This would involve utilising the switched feed to power a relay that interrupts the power supply to the amplifier, i feel this is quite an eloquent solution as no extra cables have to be run.

Also i am adding a large reversing light on the rear of my car, (after having a bit of a nightmare reversing back up a farmers track in the dark this summer) so would situate the relay in the same area.

'sub woofer'...???? Burglar alarm I guess? Rev light max watts is 21 - so it's never going to be much good for 'reversing' .

I think petrol vapours are heavier than air so it would be better to mount any relays off the floor somewhere.

By reversing light, I actually mean a spot on a switch, also useful for those friendly folk who follow just 6 inches behind your bumper... to be used off the highway of course!

As soon as the Cops see something like that they will pull you over and give the car a thorough 'going over'. Best not to attract attention. If it's only to be used 'off road' then you should have it covered when on highway........

looks pretty snazzy i think, and useful!
Sorry if this is anyones car on here i snapped it at a Manchester branch rally as insperation!

Theres plenty of minis and landies going around with similar lights on the back, and I havent seen any pulled over at the side of the road by the feds.

In relation to the starting question Ive decided to locate the relay in the engine bay as it means there will only be potential along wire when the light is in operation. So for instance worse case scenario and the wire somehow chafes and shorts somewhere between the fuse and the relay it will blow the fuse.
