I have leaky boot syndrome. Which areas do you think I should concentrate on to find the main culprit(s)? (and don't say the boot or the weather) I didn't have it before, as I had a 'hole' to drain it off.
Unfortunitly, the MOT man insisted that I weld it up this summer and now I have enough water in there for my guinee pigs (and their mates) to have a luxurious bath in.

On a serious note, any ideas?

In no particular order - but starting at the top - since water tends to flow downhill:

Remove the load space wooden boards so you can see the full boot space

* Check condition of rear window seal by looking inside the car below the rear window for evidence of leaking
* Check boot hinge gaskets and boot hinges are tight
* Check condition of boot seal in bootlid
* Check holes where Minor and 1000 badges fit - if necessary a blob of glue from a glue gun will seal
* Check number plate fittings for water leaking in via the fixing screws
* Check boot handle and gasket and make sure the handle is firm
* Check the fuel filler pipe is sealed properly against the bodywork
* Check the fuel tank aperture is sealed properly and is secure as water can make its way in here too.

Also check the condition of the floor and inner wings in the boot area for rot as water can make its way in from the road when travelling when it's wet.

That's enough to get started with - I'm sure I will have missed something obvious but you should be able to cure most water leaks by getting all these right or fixed

This is a problem I have never been able to over come on any of my saloons that sit outside! My solution is to have drain holes drilled into the boot floor so at least the water can get out

I'm just about to fit a new boot seal,as mine is as flat as pancake.I was hoping this would cure my olympic sized swimming pool ,but that last list has made me feel less hopful

get some sealant and put a dab on all of the clips inside the boot like the badge and no plate nuts and spread it round to make sure there is no gap,I found that even with new gaskets the water still got into mine so the above cured it

remove the back seat, and lie through the car looking at the closed boot. get someone else to put a hose all over, and see where it's leaking from

In my case it was the number plate light gasket.
Is you wheel arch flange completely sound? A small rust hole there can let water in.

Thanks to all. I will try the looking through the back seat. The boot seal looks a bit perished and I'll need to check all the things that have been suggested. Good tip about the badges.

My money is on a hole in the inner wing. Especially if you notice particularly after driving in the wet (as oppose to just sitting in the rain).

Look down the rear edge seam (next to the wing mounting nuts.)

Talking of boot leakage I have been welding all inner wheel arch repair panels and boot floor together in my 1967 2 door saloon. Everything is fine but with all panels fitting accurately I seem to have small gaps at corners of lower boot floor - would someone perhaps have or be able to post a picture of that area for me as it should be please from inside the boot?
