Re: found a lamp!!
i take it ,its not part of a pair ? i thought it may have been used by the police as a spot light
does anyone think its worth anything cos its going on ebay later !!

Re: found a lamp!!
Period accessory, could have been used singularly or as a pair. Many cars of the time would just have one on the offside of the car. A Police searchlight would have been white, not yellow. Probably worh about £20 but who knows with eBay.....??

Re: found a lamp!!
If the chrome is shiny and the lamp works it should get £20 or so! Scooter lads like them!

Re: found a lamp!!
it certainly is in good condition ,the chrome is good and the glass is good too ,the bracket has a little rust ,and the insde and bulb is like new.
Re: found a lamp!!
More like a Fog lamp -so would have been on the nearside, aimed at the kerb. And of course the yellow beam cuts through fog like a knife......

Re: found a lamp!!
Nice looking lamp and definitely a front fog lamp. The peaked design and centre chrome together with the self coloured glass make it particularly unusual. I don't recognise it as a Lucas lamp, although it is similar to the SFT 576 and 4FT. I suspect it is possibly a rival aftermarket part. Worth taking apart to find the manufacturer...
I would say it would not have been fitted to a car as standard and, if not Lucas, unlikely to be a factory/dealer option either. So an aftermarket accessory.
My guess is late 1950's to early 1960's. Regarding value the reflector condition is the most critical as it is practically impossible to repair. Should easily make £20+ but if you can find a manufacturer and a period advert or link to a car model would be worth more.
Wipac, Butler, Lumax, Marchal and Miller all made similar lights, but I don't recognise this one. I am very interested to know what it is!

This 4FT is quite like it - but not yellow and no centre dot. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LUCAS-4FT-FOG ... 5d30eb6ec7
Pretty sure it IS a 4FT - but maybe fitted with a later glass/reflector with the centre dot. Looks like it could be worth £40 +...

Re: found a lamp!!
It is similar, but the rim is different. Subtle differences I admit, but important to the collector. The inner edge of the Lucas rim is deeper next to the glass and there are indentations on the outer top edge of the rim. These are very difficult to see in the picture of the eBay lamp.
