what is the Tik..Tik....Tik... sound of the electric petrol pump ? Why ?

The sound is made by the movement of the central pushrod moving the diaphragm up or down to pump the fuel. As the sprung points trip over and spark there is a metallic "click". This combines with the general "glup" noise of the sudden movement of the diaphragm and surge in fuel pressure to make that characteristic "tik...tik....tik"

Hmmm.... some things are not easy to put into words....

Some of the replacement pumps are very noisy. You can fit anti-vibration mounts which quiten it down but can still hear that it's working.[frame]Image[/frame]

It's encouraging to hear the pump ticking......like a heart beat. Worry when it starts to race - worry even more when it stops...

mine was banging against the body work so I strapped a little sponge to it ,presto no banging but I can still hear the metronome going tick tick tick :D
