Morris Minor Owners Club

After having an accident, I would appreciate advice as to where I could have the chassis fixed etc.

I live in the Wirral and wonder if anybody has a recommendation for a specialist garage?

150 miles might be "relatively near" for Scotland, but it's quite a long way for our friend to transport his car for a quotation.

If he doesn't know a bodyshop, perhaps his nearest back-street "mechanical repairs only" garage would tell him where they send any bodywork jobs. No real point in even talking to the sort of place where the only staff you get to see wear makeup.

I know that some of the regulars have rather made light of his wanting a safer car, but I can see his concern, from two points of view: firstly, no amount of odd survival anecdotes will convince me that any sixty year old design has either the primary or secondary safety levels of even the poorest modern car; and, just as important, this young man's confidence has been dented. To a degree, this is a Good Thing, as most young drivers have a surfeit of it, as he perhaps did when he drove his mates round, but once you've lost confidence in a car, for whatever reason, maybe it's time to sell it and move on. Selling a car isn't divorce.

I thought Tom Roy was nearer than that - were they not in/around Blackpool at one time? I would ONLY take the car to a Minor specialist - is there one nearer??

Good points Kevin but it's a bit swings and roundabouts.
A modern car may be safer in a crash but it allows, even encourages, much higher speed crashes.

I'd suggest he gets a couple of mobile welders to have a look at it and quote for the job, that should give him a good idea of what is needed without having to shell out any money.

why a minor specialist,just find a good bodyshop with a jig to check and straighten the chassis,bodywork repair is the same on a classic and a modern,moderns just have more plastic than steel.Mind good bodyshops are becoming few and far between these days the cost of new spray booths has closed many down, some reports on here about certain specialists just show there are specialists and bodgealists.if the car has been in an accident where suspected chassis damage has been caused then in my view there is a chance that the frame is out of alignment and the car should be put on a caroliner type jig to make sure the vehicle is going to be safely put back on the road.Not many minor specialists will have access to such a jig, it can't be done with bits if string and a tape measure.In a previous life as a vehicle examiner with the police ,you wouldn't believe the state of some cars that I have examined, fixed by so called specialists.

Millennium Motors in Manchester are almost exclusively Morris Minor, they know what they're doing.

I live on the Wirral and have a retired garage owner/Welder/Sprayer/mechanic who is a classic car owner and he has done great work on my Traveller.
He still has loads of contacts in the motor industry and can point you in the right direction to a local small trustworthy
body shop if it’s to big for him to do.

Why do you think you need the 'chassis fixed' anyway?? You said it was a gentle roll-over - that would be unlikely to damage the 'chassis' - which the car doesn't have anyway..... can you post up some pictures of the damage??
