My first car, My first Moggie :)

Hi everyone
I have recently bought my first car, the moggie :)
I was either going to get a mini or a moggie minor as i have always liked them and i want to have a car with lots of character and that is fun to drive and i would refuse to drive round in some saxo or corsa.
I have a saturday job down at GW & G BRIDGES in Pease pottage in the tyre bay and one a black minor came in for sale, had a look but it was a bit too rusty for what i could deal with. So when i got home i had a look what was on mmoc for sale and came across the 1970 2dr Trafalgar Blue which was perfect. It was only 30mins away from where i live, disc brake conversion, unleaded head, engine rebuild in 1999 not too much rust and it was a lovely minor. So i went down to lewes in the evening to give it a good looking over, but it was just what i thought and went for it.

I collected it this morning and the grin was glued to my face for hours :D , it is currently kept at my grandparents house (along with the rx7) at them mo as we are a bit limited for space.

My life is cars and i never get tired of them. When i was 14 i started repairing cat c and d insurance write off's and still do two years on (depending on what come's in down billie's) and fix, maintain and tune all of are cars and i think i have done 6 write off's to date but we use them for about 6 months - 1 year and the sell them on. I am currently doing the Level 2 Motorsport Course at collage (already done level 1) 4 days a week and i am also buying and selling parts as well as fixing all the cars and doing all my little projects in my spare time.
I am going to do a restoration post on the moggie up on here as well so every one can see, as well as the former owner and i am also going to drive it back to show her when i have done as it was understandably very difficult for her to sell it.
I have got a year to fix her all up as i am currently 16 so will all be done by the time i am 17 in july.

I will probably put the restoration post up tomorrow as its getting a bit late now but i will some pics below.
And i got her for £500
You have to get some pics while its on the trailer and in transit :D

Thought i'd mention that the Saab was a write off as well. First time towing anything with it and it is a very good tower.

Welcome to the world of Morris Minor owners.

Looks like a good buy for the money. Interior looks particularly good.

Good luck with it and I look forward to keeping up with the resto on the resto page. :D

Thanks for the replies guys :)
I have been waiting for the time i finally get my own car for a long time and now it is finally here :D
I'll keep the resto page updated with all the bits i do and i will be more than likely be asking for advice and help as well
I went though all the history today and the engine has only done 6000 miles since it was rebuild (receipt for £1400 back in 1999), so its basically a new engine in my mind and she has given me all the minor matters magazines she has collected over the years and some new parts as well :D
I'm like a kid in a sweet shop :P

I do like the colour of her and i gave her a clean today and she has come out even better.
I'm dead chuffed about the condition obviously but mostly the disc brake conversion and unleaded conversion as they have saved me a lot of money as i would have of done those mods anyway so it would be better for everyday use.

The unleaded conversion would not have been a problem anyway, there are additives out there which is what I use- saves some dosh.

Looks a good car. Whats the underside like?

I know about all the additives but it's a lot easier just filling up and driving off, and i won't need to spend an extra 10 quid on additives on each fill up. But the conversion has already been done for me so that hurdle has already been jumped but i do know where you are coming from.
The underside isn't to bad as it has all been waxoiled under there but i will put the pics up on the resto post.

Every silver lining has a cloud :(

Flushed with the joys of his new pride and joy I guess I will now find it impossibble to get my "in house wannabee mechanic" to do any work to my cars? ...looks like it garage bills for me from now on. :-?

Steve,

No need for expensive 'unleaded' conversion - or any additives. They run fine on unleaded fuel - just set exhaust valve gaps to 15 thou and check/reset every 3000 miles...
