Fitting a temperature Gauge & Sender

Hi, I have a 1275 engine with an alternator and would like to fit a temperature gauge and sender. There are only the remains of an old sendor blocking up the hole at the moment. ESM have a gauge at £30 and an electrical sender at £7.95. I would have thought this a better option than the capillary type. Does anyone know if there are any threads on the site on how to fit these and if I need any other bits to make it work? Thanks

Capillary gauge is better..... To fit the sender - remove the remains and screw in the new sender. Install the gauge in the car - take the feed for the gauge from the voltage regulator on the back of the speedo - light green wire, and connect the gauge to the sender. Simples!

Capillary may be better but the best price I can find is £92 new. Anyone know a cheaper source for new. I assume a mini scrapper might have these. Why is electrical one considered inferior?

Certainly not worth £92 - blimey. Yes - a Mini will yield an electrical one - get the voltage stabiliser off the speedo with it.......

For £92 I would expect to get the oil pressure/water temp dual gauge.

A lot of parts are now turning up boxed but with no fitting instructions. I presume the Taiwanese translation was becoming too expensive

But it's free! (I realise your comment was a little tongue in cheek)
My computer automatically translates, even if I open someone's blog written in Chinese characters after a few seconds it appears in English.

Thanks for the input, Chaps. Just about to order a 3-pack as per Neil MG sent a few links...not quite Smiths but we are in a recession...and the water gauge is capillary....and it comes with inswuctions!!
