Highlight or Lowlight? - What is your Favourite and why?

Hi,

I'm going to start work on altering the front of 'Bumble' (sig. pic) today.

The flares on the front wings are ok, but not really shapely (!) enough, or high enough, to suit the rest of the car. So I will reshape these.

BUT I also have a brand new pair of fibre-glass lowlight wings here which I could use. I was going to put them on the Drag project so question is which do you prefer or would you prefer to see on the front of Bumble..........

Thanks for all opinions!

Cheers

Martin :D

For very custom cars, I think lowlight wings etc complete the look. We also know they're more aerodynamic.. :)

As you have more than one custom vehicle and both types of wings (which presumably you are going to use anyway regardless of the vote result here) I'd keep the prize winning Bumble as he is and use the lowlight wings on the new project. But the choice is yours so do what you want to do and don't be swayed by public opinion! :D

You can't beat the look of a Lowlight front end on a modified Minor, even if the panels are totally standard! 8)[frame]Image[/frame]

I went low light for aero and lower c of g, however head light performance isnt as good due to the lights being lower.

Hi Martin,

I think that the roundness to the front of the low light wing and the headlight position looks excellent on a good quality modded car.

What a dilema you have...which car will I play with first. LOL

Adam owns the black lowlight, which I think you built originally steve? I owned it before adam and did a lot of changes :D

I love the lowlight look, for aero as well as ascetic looks. I may lowlight my new traveller

I am new to the UK (Nottingham) from Australia and I love the look of the Lowlights (it gets my vote btw) and I am wondering what the legality of modifying the front wings and lights of a late model Traveller to a lowlight version is...? In Aus it would be reducing the performance of the lights and be frowned upon... What is the process here?

I ask because as of two weeks ago I am the proud owner of a 1968 Traveller, with two shot front wings
I have taken insurance with Footman James, will they be concerned?

Its on the road but shabby and I plan to make it a usable daily driver with a bit of interest...

You'll need to fit the front panel as well. Legalities shouldn't be a problem.

It was a requirement for the US market back in the day.
Looking at how low the lights and everything else is on a modern car I'd think they were OK again.

Modern cars don't use 1950's headlights (thank goodness!)

IIRC there are some legality issues to use lowlight configuration on a late model Minor - however as I can't remember which rules apply (let alone provide a reference to the rules) please do as much homework as you think necessary.

They are technically to low if you use the Construction and use regs rule, (although I had my torsion bars wound up and big deep tyre on my minor when I did my check and got to legal height by an eigth of an inch.
Theres nothing in the MOT about height as long as his height box will go low enough he can test it.,
In fact a certain kit car builder will lend you an SVA nose to replace the one in your kit of parts for the SVA test. As for the fifties headlights thing get a set of modern halogen bulbs on old bases from a certain bike bulb supplier don't know if I'm allowed to name him on here.

Yep, front panel, but I read somewhere the bonnet was different too or does it not matter?

This is a project I am doing with my wife as a rolling resto, and we have yet to come to terms with how modded it should be as we keep liking the way it looks now with all its scruffiness. But then I keep thinking, why not? I don't want to sell the car I want to enjoy the car and have fun with tweaking it, and this seems like something that no-one has done yet which is exciting in its own way, but there just may be a good reason as to why no-one has yet done it.

Any build diaries of sedan lowlight conversion anyone know of?
