Just bought a Moggie for my first car.

I've just joined the MMOC after getting a '71 Minor 1000

This is my first car and I've always loved Minors so I was really pleased to find one in this condition, and it's certainly better than wizzing around in a modern plastic car :)

The gearbox took a bit of getting used to and the clutch is a touch sharper than I'm used to after driving round in my parents newer cars, and it feels a lot nippier than a Diesel Land Rover does.

And the Tax and Insurance bills are less than half of what I would be paying with the usual fiesta/corsa hatchback too 8)

I've attached a picture of me and my car.[frame]Image[/frame]

Welcome to the forum. That's a lovely looking car. Nice to see youngsters appreciating old cars.
If I had a car more than twice my age it would have solid tyres!! (and possibly a steam engine)

Well this remark got me to thinking, and I went to Google to see what I could find that might be twice as old as me.
I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=muLxFAoSOl0 but it's not old enough! :o

Well done! A Minor is a good choice for a first car, as they teach you how to drive properly, maintain a car, are economical and they're fun to drive without being remotely quick. Make sure you get a haynes/workshop manual and learn how to maintain and repair it yourself. Looks like you've got one in good nick, so with any luck you won't need to carry out any major repairs any time soon.

My first car was a Minor, which I bought getting on for 8 years ago now. Totally bitten by the classic bug - have never owned a modern car and never intend to (willingly, at least).

It is interesting that if this site is anything to go by, there are a lot more young people getting interested in Minors these days. When I joined this site there were few people of similar age on here, whereas now there seems to be quite a good number. Not sure if this is due to the astronomical cost of insurance for modern cars, a dearth of 'old bangers' due to the scrappage scheme, or something else.

I coulnd't find one more than twice my age but this one is just under http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1885Benz.jpg

Great move Moggie94 starting off with a classic and not joining the Corsa/Saxo brigade like a lot of other 18 year olds (guessing from your Addy?). Enjoy the car driving experience as it was meant to be :D

Got my first car a few months ago too, same colour (possibly). You's looks a little better nick than mine, on the outside, how much did you pay for it?

They are pretty fun to drive! And mine cost a 10th of the price to insure and tax than any modern, faced insurance of £3000 when I was looking. Thats what made me finally make the plunge after my quote came up at £300...

Wish I'd had one of these for a first car - I had to settle for a mk1 Fiesta that I had to fix before I could even drive it.

Friends may take the mickey but they can't drift roundabouts in their modern FWD tat. 8)
