Front seat belts

My 1969 Moggie really needs new seat belts as the buckles are damaged by the seats being banged down on them. They are the original belts as fitted new. I have read all the various postings about seat belts but am still confused. Many of you recommend inertia belts but which ones can be easily fitted to existing mounting points with no drilling of extra holes. Where can I get them from? The same questions apply to static belts. It seems that with advertised belts the parts that fit to the floor behind the seats are not long enough as they only seem to be 30cm long so will not come anywhere near the hip. Do modern motor accessory shops still sell seat belts? When I bought a Frogeye Sprite in 1975 I had no problem walking into an accessory shop and buying Kangol belts and mounting kit.

Well it's been a while since 1975! Not many of those kind of auto accessory shops left. Original Kangol and Britax NOS seatbelts come up on eBay occasionally but be prepared to fight with the concours guys to pay £300-500 a pair.

Expect to pay considerably more than the Securon, but less than NOS. You can at least chose colour of belt and style of hardware. They are also very helpful regarding installation options and will do that for you if you wish.

With the Securon inertia belts the buckle is attached to steel wire and if mounted to the bracket on the floor to the side of the propshaft tunnnel there is enough strap on the reel side to reach the buckle. You do not say if it is a 2 or 4 door as the mounting points are different

Thanks for advice. I have bought a Securon 500/45 inertia belt which I received today. Now trying to work out how it fits!

You should have the fixings in place. The buckle fixes to the bracket on the floor near the propshaft tunnel. You should have a bracket fixed to the rail under the rear side window to fit the guide on the webbing and there is a threaded hole in the sill. Pass a bolt through the hole in the reel then through the bracket on the end of the webbing then screw into the hole so that the end of the webbing is clamped between the reel and the sill. Twist the reel so that the belt has a straight run to the bracket under the window otherwise it will lock up when you pull the webbing out to wear the belt.
You will find all sorts of extra nuts, bolts, washers, spacers and brackets so just choose the bits that you need.

Thank you for advice on how to fit the belt. I can now see how it fits with the reel and end of belt on the same bolt without needing to use the various brackets that came with it.
