It all depends on your overdraught limit

You have the SV engine but do you have the SV gearbox, propshaft, engine mounting towers, gearbox mounts, radiator etc?

no idea yet I'm afraid. The lady tells me that she has the old engine and it will go with the car. hopefully gearbox is still attached (I can't see why they would have separated them).

Are the other bits a problem to get hold of generally then? It's possible the original radiator is still in there too but who knows... A learning process for me (which is why I like these things really)

I've agreed to take the car so will have to see what arrives when it's delivered. If the worst comes to the worst I'll offer it to someone on here. She was going to throw it away so I thought it was worth trying to save it...

Can you recomend any good guides/books for this model?

The gearbox may be separated from the engine to make it lighter to move. Have a good poke around the barn to see if there are any goodies worth having and check in the boot. Even if you find bits for other cars it is better to get them back in to circulation than to loose them in the scrap yard. You should be able to get any missing parts by the time you have sorted the bodywork.
The first book you need is a proper Workshop Manual AKD 530 and if you can find one, a Morris Minor Series MM Service Parts List AKD 615. Original Morris Minor is a useful book.
Just remember that although it looks like a Minor 1000 there are very few interchangeable parts

Any of the BMC/BL manuals will do as long as they include the Series MM, the Haynes manual will be no use to you

Is it worth going to the bother when you can buy a new one?

The numbers looks like the same, but when you look at the details, you will see the difference.
And on the site, you can read this is the knob from the series 2..
Maybe I can use the picture from the newer knob to remake the old one.

Agreed, that is Series 2 gearknob which is smaller. ESM sent me one to study the construction.

Rad and gearbox both with the old side valve engine thankfully... My dad reckons a lot of it is pretty solid and the farmer pumped the tyres up on monday and they're still holding air today (after over 30 years in that barn!) - that's some good inner tubes!

fair bit of corrosion though and a bit battered by the looks of it, but I'm confident I'll get it through the MOT at least! (one day).

Another one saved hopefully anyway. It nearly went to the tip!

That is a Series MM radiator, looks like the early round radiator cap, don't lose it they are difficult to find. The carb and manifold look like a Series 2, can't tell what the engine is.
Could you please send me the chassis no (SMMxxxxx) so that I can add it to the register

Mike, that is the best picture of the MM gear knob I have seen. Do you also have a profile shot please? That would be enough to allow fabrication of a pretty decent replica.

I have the numbers on the outside, this one has it on the inside....
