it is the gearbox steady, to stop your engine and box moving forward under heavy breaking etc

a new one is 3.50 from bull motif

Early cars didn't have it - it's not absolutely necessary -if you get a new one - don't do it up tight - it should be slightly 'loose'. Nice clean looking car under there Sandun!

don't see the need for one myself. no austin's were ever fitted with one.

It may have been mentioned before but, the tie may prevent the engine/gearbox from moving forward when the clutch is engaged via the 'rod' mechanism.

---and although disputed in some quarters, it does seems to have an influence in reducing judder when reversing!
