I now own a 1959 morris 1000 and its wipers are the clap hand type.

Somehow i found out that the wipers are rotating in the same direction instead of the contrary motion

This is the first time i'm using the wipers

Could someone pls advice what could be the problem and how to rectify my wipers rotation

possible the wheel boxes (on the rack inside the dash) are on the rack the wrong side. with clap hand wipers you have to have one wheelbox above and one wheelbox below so they rotate in different directions.

This is an early rack with the motor on the right, under the dash, your motor is on the left under the bonnet so the wheel boxes may be the opposite way round

Just finishing off my pickup and put the glass and trim in, moved on to clipping the wiper arms on and I have a problem, when one arm is up the other is down and then when one goes down the other goes up, they clear each other but wherever the motor stops one arm is up, the wipers seem to be the clap hand type but it is not a split screen, what is wong?? regards, Steve

Sounds like the same problem, one wheelbox mounted in the opposite orientation. What happens if you fit both wipers facing the same direction? Watch the spindles without arms fitted so you stop the motor at the end of travel, before fitting the wipers. You can also see if the spindles rotate in the same or opposite directions. Should be a very simple fix once you see how they work. Remember to keep the windscreen wet while you operate the wipers. They travel further on a wet screen and if you adjust the park position dry they will hit the screen rubber when in use (in the wet obviously!)

Thank you Neil, sounds like i will have to dismantle whats under the dash and have a look, hopefully i can re assemble whats there so that the wipers work together and not clapping hands as they are at the moment, I apolagise for hijacking this thread .

Just take the wiper arms off and watch the direction of rotation of the spindles. If they both move in the same dirction then you will have to turn one of the wheel boxes upside down. If they move in opposite directions then stop them when the driver's side spindle has turned fully anti clockwise as viewed from the seat and then fit the wiper arms so that both are pointing towards each other. After testing on a wet screen they may need a small adjustment.
