Nothing wrong with it - he's clearly selling them as 'collectors items'.

Can anyone show me the Regulation that says ' It's illegal to sell the V5 without the car ' - where it's clearly being sold as a collectors item.... ??

Did anyone get the registration number or the sellers details before the listing was removed? I am desperately trying to collect details of all such cars; and any such clues are invaluable.

You are not permitted to sell it for the simple reason that you don't own it.

well we've been here before, several times, and the question was is it legal or not.My view is that you can sell it so long as its not intended to decieve,or ring an other car,Do the documents belong to you without having the car, the theft act clearly indicates that Property[quote] shall be regarded as belonging to any person having possession or control of it, or having in it any proprietary right or interest (not being an equitable interest arising only from an agreement to transfer or grant an interest).[quote.So if you owned the car and broke it up for spares but kept the vin plate and number plates then its your property to do with as you wish.BUT section 6 on the V5 has a box below the notification of new owner which you tick if you have personally broken the vehicle for scrap and a date section of doing this then the whole V5 should be sent back to dvla so that they can clear the details off the records. Therefore although not an offence within the theft act if you scrap a vehicle and don't sent the V5 back and then sell it you have very clearly failed to notify dvla of a change in the vehicles status and therefore would be liable to be prosecuted by dvla the same as you would if you sold the vehicle and failed to notify them of the new owner. So in the above circumstances you would not have the V5 to sell if you had complied with the dvla regs. I would be doubtfull if the dvla would then return the V5 to you even if you could show that it had some historical or interesting past.BUT section 9 of the V5 has a tear off section to notify dvla that you have handed the vehicle to a garage ,insurance co ,or vehicle dismantler.and this is the only bit that dvla want ,leaving you with the V5 minus section 9.so then you have a V5 to sell on.Now thinking out of the box this V5 could not be used to clone since it is not complete and as soon as you sent it to dvla or applied for tax it would flag up at dvla that this vehicle had been disposed of.Anyway e bay will remove it, I can't understand why they don't just put a system in place to prevent the insertion of the item in the first place
