Just fitted an alternator kit from minor spares birmingham and i'm very pleased very easy, just two unexpected ( I need to plan better  ) i had to reposition the coil, and I didn't know how tight the new fan belt should be .just something to keep in mind.I also suggested to minor parts to add this to their kit instructions.

How about posting up a simple step by step guide to fitting an alternator? I could then add a link to it to the alternator wiring sticky as it might be useful for others :)

fan belt tightness should be no different.

either just enough to turn the fan blades with one finger. or enough to deflect the longest section of belt by the width of two fingers.

If you can turn the fan blades inside the fan belt - it's TOO SLACK! You should be able to turn the engine with the fan blades......
