Hi all, is there a scuttle repair pannel. I have asked if anyone had a boddy shell they were cutting up but no joy.

Yes they are available. RP179L or RP179R These come slightly oversized for you to trim. Available from all morris suppliers.

That's certainly NOT what is generally recognised as the 'scuttle'

Yes -I know - but the 'scuttle' on most cars is generally recognised as being the area in front of the windscreen - up to the bonnet ........

Agreed - it is confusing, but in this case I think it's the "kidney" scuttle

I would say 'inner wing area' or 'bulkhead side area' although - and yes these are the infamous kidney panels.....

Well BMC is right, its the corner of the windscreen area im after. half way up the A post to about the wiper arm needs to be cut out and repaired/ replaced.

Yes, there's no commercially availabe panel for that area. i did a car a couple of years back that needed that section replacing - windscreen lip from 2" up the pillar to about 6" along the scuttle top. Not an easy panel to make at all. Think i did it in about three pieces with a fair bit of shrinking and stretching, leaving plenty of extra material on to prevent heat distortion (all gas welded) before final trimming and mig welding into place.

It wouyld have been a lot eaiser to cut a section out of a scrapper (exactly what I did when doing a Marina once) but i try and avoid cutting up savable shells if there's a way round it....

Good for you Iain! The more cars we can save the better, and that is exactly how I would make up such a section myself.

There Is a section on this forum full of scrap cars in yards which wont be sold and renovated. Im nt asking anyone to cut up a good shell. I have just been given a four door split screen which has been outside for years but the gutter is very good and the boot lid is solid but the floor is rotten. Ever wonder why so many cars rot in different places

Thanks, but to be honest the impressive repair was rebuilding where the door frame meets the roof. The roof was holding on with filler. Made new gutters for both sides as per the Haynes restoration book. very easy and very satisfying as they are expensive to buy.[frame][/frame[[frame][/frame]

How did you go about making the scuttle repair? It looks just like one from an original Minor! Good job.

Neat job - I'm guessing it is a part from another shell. I rescued a windscreen opening/scuttle complete from a rotten shell I scrapped many many years ago. It's still hanging in my garage loft....... just in case I need it some day.
