In the ongoing restoration of my traveller I have now repaired and revarnished the woodwork and plan to refit the rear sliding side windows tomorrow. A few (rather basic - ie dumb!) questions.

I assume that the grab handles to slide the windows are both on the inside. Clearly the rear one has to be as otherwise it would foul the outer glass. I assume the one on the front glass is inside as well. Could someone please confirm this.

My guess is that the easiest way to fit the glasses it to first fix the top runners, then manoeuvre the glass in with the bottom runner and then pin the bottom rubber to the woodwork. Is this the normal approach?

Is it best to use pins or small screws to fix the runners in position?

Should I put sealant between the side of the outer bottom runner and the woodwork? (Obviously making sure none of it blocks the gutter below the runner.) Similarly should the vertical channels have sealer on the outer edge?

You're pretty well spot on. fix top runner, manoeuvre glass and bottom runner into place. Handles on inside. Use sealer between side of runner and wood. Use pins to retain runner, hammer in diagonally into corner of the U-shaped runner to ensure that the heads do not foul the glass. I have found greatly improved waterproofing by using sealant on the inside runner and wood as well.
