Dear Sirs , Can you tell me what is the Suitable Sparking Plug for morris minor 1000 -1957 year - Manual says it is Champion N5 - But problem , Champion plugs not in Sri lanka - I have to change plugs - Can you tell me What is the Suitable Plugs for morris minor 1000 -1957 year- NGK BP 6 ES or NGK B6 ES I thing Champion N5 = NGK B6 ES , Champion N9y = NGK BP 6 ES
- What should I use ?

The comparisons you show are correct between Champion and NGK; the N9Y/BP6ES are 'projected core nose', developed in the 1960's, and are more tolerant of differing conditons. They run 'hotter' at low speeds and 'cooler' at higher speeds, so perform across a wide spectrum of conditions better than the earlier 'flush' version. Both will work fine in a Minor, but the BP6ES will give you a tolerance that you never knew you needed!

The coil does get hot, is the engine running badly?

I'm sure I have asked before - but again - what is the impedance of the coil - with cables disconnected - across the two terminals......

The distibutor rotates clockwise so in your diagram you have 1,2,4,3,.

Also number one tends to be the hole you have labeled 2, to check this turn the engine till the timing marks are lined up on the pulley and see where the rota arm is pointing.

No - here we go again - the dizzy rotates ANTI-CLOCKWISE ! The 1342 as shown is absolutely correct......

I thing Rotor rotate opposite to clockwise - Can you tell me what are the 1....2.... plug and what is the 1....2.... wire of distributor

No 1 plug is at the front of the engine, No 4 plug is at the back
Turn the engine on the starting handle until the notch on the crankshaft pulley is lined up with the long pointer on the timing chain cover. The rotor arm will now be pointing at 1 or 4 on the distributor. No 1 is normally where you have No 2 so try that position 1st..
If you have moved the distributor then you will have to reset the timing.

If the engine is running at the moment - DO NOTHING. It's fine.

Sorry if I was a bit abrupt there - but it's the second time it's come up in the last few days.

This is one of Haynes and other manual's downfalls. It is one of those things which, to the uniniate or unfamiliar is clear as mud. It is also prone to misinformation as well as paranoia. I have three manuals for my car but none could get me started (Haynes, Hopkirk and BMC). Searches online merely dragged up forums full of bewildered people (despite several helpful people).

Is it just me is there nothing about this on the MMOC site under tips or articles, whatever? It seems to me that there is a lot of useful knowledge interspersed on forum pages (and elsewhere online) that would benefit all concerned if it could be garnered and indexed under lay headings (e.g. plug sequence in distributor cap, number one plug, etc) into an online manual. I suppose that task comes under research project which equals much effort, but even a few links might help those of us staggering from forum to lost forum (see the MG pages and whatever, they're full of identical woes).

Hopefully someone will stand me corrected, but meantime, as I have lunch before going out to try and get my new distributor working, here is a diagram that emerged on this site...[frame][/frame]
