Escort axle with Minor PCD?

Hi,
Just trying to get everything worked out for the next project. We're going to need an Escort rear axle for both the strength and so we can fit a 3.54 diff however I'd prefer to keep the minor wheels for the over all look of the project. Has anyone any experiences with having the escort half shafts modified to take a minor pcd?
Thanks,
Philip

Surely if you need the strength of the escort axle, you will also need the grip and performance of wider wheels? Also front discs? In which case ford pcd would be much easier, and you can still get banded steels if that's the look your after. I did ask a while ago and jonathon didn't seem to think it could be done reasonably.

Any good engineering shop will redrill for new stud pattern.

It's going to be a fairly small turbo diesel engine so not too fast, it's just the torque is at the upper limit of a minor axle. I've got some front hubs with the marina disc brakes with minor pcd.
Thanks for the advice Alex'n'Ane and Pete!
So, can anyone recommend a good engineering shop in Lincoln. Much easier when I lived in Trowbridge as the engineering shop was across the road

Sounds like an excellent build, have you made a thread? What is the engine from? Through a Type9? I also have some marina discs up front on minor pcd, I'm getting the hubs redrilled to ford to match the axle.

No thread yet, I'll start one when we start work on the car. I've got to finish the current project (an ex-met panda) first. The plan is a traveller with 1.5TD engine from a corsa, through a type 9 gearbox to a 3.54 diff in escort axle. This should give slightly better ratios than the original corsa ones plus about 100kg less body weight. I could have gone for the 1.7TD as it's an overbored version of the 1.5 but this is my first major modification so I'm trying to keep things fairly sensible.
