Odd gap between steering wheel and indicator cover

What do you make of this? Column is as far down on the floor as it will go, and bolts holding the indicator assembly to the dash are done up, too. The steering wheel nut is tight.

I don't imagine it'll cause problems, but it seems wrong, and doesn't look very good. Why's it like this and what can I do to fix it?
*For the observant among you, this is exactly the same post as somewhere else. It's an experiment.*

Loosen the steering clamp under the dashboard and move the sleeve+switch+cover assembly up the column towards the wheel. Re-tighten the clamp. Then check if the arm still self cancels and, if not, adjust the position of the indicator switch on the sleeve.

Do you mean the clamp at the base of the column or the bracket that holds the column to the dashboard? Because the clamp at the base of the column is a ***** to move, even without the bolt...

The bracket that holds the column to the dashboard is the one you need. It is only the outer sleeve that needs to move.

Well...I tried it...
I slackened the two bolts that hold up the steering column under the indicator assembly (on the little clamp we were talking about), drew the clamp toward the wheel as much as I could, and retightened the bolts. It didn't make any difference whatsoever.

What else can I try? I'm considering (
carefully since it's bakelite) widening the holes for the bolts that secure the indicator cover. I only need another millimeter or so.

This is the piece that you need to move, not the clamp.[frame]

Aaaaah...now the fog of ignorance clears, allowing the light of understanding to shine onto the war-torn plains of my mind. I will adjust it that way when I'm home again, and report back.
