front dampers

Post by PAULJ »

Hi all These are the front dampers on my van. I have seen a lot of vans with the bonnet up but have not seen any like this. Are they original ?

Thought I would give this another go. Can anyone identify the dampers on my van. They come through the inner wing as well with a large cap that has a screw driver slot about 2"
Anyone ??
Please

More pics would be good - are they held on with the normal 4 bolts into the crossmember? Are the usual two 'unused' bolt holes still there in the crossmember?

There seems to be extra mounting bolts into the inner wings and an adapted inner wing I think

They are mounted the same as moggy. Its not extra mounts on the inner wing, it goes through the inner wing[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

It looks like the pistons are horizontally opposed and has a resevoir at the top that can be filled via the top cap. Is there something stamped in the top cap

How big is the actual filler under that enormous cap?

BMC. Didn't we chat about some 'adapted' dampers a few weeks ago? I recalled that someone had previously mentioned some cars having oddball dampers fitted.

Any idea of the build date of the vehicle and history?

I've always hoped to find some larger dampers for the front - perhaps using the alternative mounting holes - but until these ones I have never seen anything other than the normal units. At the rear - it appears that MGB dampers probably have larger capacity - but the same mounting hole dimensions..... I turned down the chance to purchase a pair a while back - mainly because I felt with post they were a bit expensive. If I find a set locally - I will be having them!
