engine paint

i have some lovely green engine paint that was bought from the lovely people down at esm, however its drying time isnt measured in hours, but at the glacial pace of several days to a week.

any way of speeding it up a bit?

would thinning it down with white spirit help its leisurely drying speed?

I would think so, but you'd have to be more careful of runs in painting. Surely heat lamps and dehumidifiers would do the trick.

never really thought about that. i have had them sitting in the sun for the past few days, but its still tacky.

Did you get the engine really clean first?
Any oil or grease would tend to stop it ever drying.

How about running the engine, that would heat it up nicely!

the engine is really clean, not a drop of oil left, inside or out. if it where in the car and one lump, i would consider starting it up and letting it dry quickly that way, but considering its all in bits the the crank is currently in a bath of petrol, starting might be a little hard.

however i did thin the paint down with white spirit. though the coverage wasnt great, it did start to set alot quicker, so another coat tomorrow and it should be all good

When you do come to start it best to do it outside as it will stink your garage up, very unpopular if it's attached to the house
