coil wiring

Post by rustbucket »

i have just rebuilt a 66 2d saloon and have converted to an alternator . the old loom was a mess so a brand new one was purchased with wiring for an alternator . now comes the wiring up and pluging every thing in place. all went well up to the ignition side of things.
out of the loom that leads to the alternator is the large plug that goes into the back of the , 3 brown wires, sorted.
next the wires for the oil preasure and the oil filter, sorted.
i am now left with3 wires.
1 white that comes from the ignition, i think
2 wires both white with a black trace.
the car is now negative earth and the coil is marked + & - not sw/cb.
going by the wiring diagram the white wire goes to the coil and the coil is conected to the dissy with a white wire /black trace
but i have 2 wires (white/black) coming from the loom, if i connect my continuity meter to these they make a circuit
question
where do the 3 wires go? :(
anybody have a similar loom on thier car?
i have emailed the supplier but have had no response

thank bmcecosses
ive done some searching and found this link
http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/ignition/ig104.htm
whats been throwing me is the 2 white/black wires coming from the loom. ive been looking for an individual wire linking the coil and dizzy. the 2 wires must be 1 in the loom

Of course they are! ANY wire that is same colour as another MUST BE electrically connected.

As the coil is marked + and -, and you have converted to -ve earth, then the white wire will be +ve to the + terminal and the white/black will be connected to earth through the points, so that will go to the - on the coil.
