Which way should the later type 1098 air cleaner be fitted? Should the "funnel" part point forwards, down or backwards? I have looked at photos of engines and diagrams in manuals but it is never shown clearly. or mentioned. Help please.

in winter you're supposed to point it backwards to the rearmost exhaust 'pipe' of the manifold, to draw in exhaust heated air.

in summer you're supposed to move it away from there, and other heat sources, to draw in cooler air.
