wipers too extited!

Post by Arthurdaily »

My windscreen wipers go too far over, they are mad and out of control... what needs adjusting? Thanks!

Have you changed anything? Do they go too far in both directions - or just one side?

When travelling over they go too far so that the driver's one is over the rubber... Haven't changed anything, except I put a new blade on one side that's all.

Did you take the arm of and not put it back in the same position?

No, only changed the blade - both wipers seem to park fine, just go over too much.

As BM suggests - take the arms off - run the wipers and switch off so they settle at the 'park ' position. Then refit the arms where you want them to be. Of course - the park position may not be set correctly - should be just as the spindle starts the new sweep. If that's the case - adjust at the wiper gearbox by rotating the cap.

This has nothing to do with what you have done, but there a 3 different types of wheel in the motor. It sound like you have a 120 degree type, fitted to later minors. One of mine does it to. In the future you may try and fit a 100 degree wheel. You can check by taking of the wheel box cover, cleaning the grease of the wheel and noting whats marked on the face of the gear wheel.

To rotate the cap does one need to remove the 'top' of the wiper motor?

No - just slacken the holding down screws.

If the Wiper arms are not sweeping the screen equally this can be because the wiper rack is loose on the spindle wheels. Remove the glove boxes and check that the securing bolts on the spindle gear boxes are tight.
