Traveller timber replacement

I need to replace the n/s rear post, waist rail and rear wheel arch section and wonder if anyone has any advice/photos of the best way to do this. Would the whole side need removing and if so would this necessitate removing the roof?

It will involve the whole side off - but you may be able to 'winkle' it out from under the roof.....although it may be easier to take it off.

Ideally you would take it all off, but you can do it still on the car. Carefully remove the wing, inner wooden cappings,glass and window runners. The wood is ? rotten anyway, remove what screws you can. There is a bracket up at the top of the pillar as well. Originally the wood was assembled and the panels fitted then put on the car so you will have to work around the panels. The pillar would have been screwed from the top but if the wood is bad it will come apart without too much hassle, same with the waist rail would have been screwed from the outside but you can cut away the old wood and if necessary clean the joint out with a chisel.

Assemble the arch and waistrail on the car before you put on the rear pillar.

Its a matter of taking your time and being careful when your stripping off the old stuff, be prepared for finding some rotten metal work as well once you remove the wooden arch.......

Thanks David. Is it possible to remove a complete side without disturbing the roof. I presume the guttering has to come off?

Yes the guttering would have to come off to do a complete side and you would also have to remove it at the b posts.

Heres a link to my traveller restoration, when I fitted new wood. There may be some pics tht could help you on there as it shows the bare fram and how its constructed without the panels. It was on this car I had previously fitted the new post and waistrail.
