Many older models seem to have lost their parcel shelves years ago. Although new shelves themselves are available for purchase, how do you fit them if all the other bits are missing? None of my reference books or old Minor Matters show diagrams. Does anyone know what thread bolt fits the threaded captive/welded nuts at the sides, and how the shelf attaches?

Don't know the thread of the 'captive nut' fixings but I had no trouble
finding bolts to fit from my odds and sods bin. The parcel shelf
has a steel cross member which has right angled brackets at each
end through which the right and left fixing bolts pass. this cross member
is riveted to the parcel shelf material and a round section sorbo rubber
moulding is then glued to the cross member. This is then covered with
material to your choice. The rear end (nearest the engine) of the
shelf is fixed through a series of holes,visible inside the engine
compartment just above the ledge to which the shock absorbers
are attached, by split (bifurcated??) rivets with washers on both sides.
If missing use any suitable small screws/nuts. As you say, the shelves,
(there are several different types depending on the year) are available
brand new but I had to hunt for a second hand steel cross member and
then found that I had the wrong year and it needed lengthening by
welding in some extra metal. This is one of those jobs which is very
involved when you get down to it UNLESS you can find a donor car
of the correct period so that you obtain ALL of the fittings at the same
time.

I'm pretty sure the thread is 1/4 inch bsf. In fact I'll say it is.

hi mrsjhmog. i have all of the parts to fit a parcel shelf. its possible to get a new precut card for the shelf and assemble yourself. i have the bar spare. metal spacers at each end and original screws for captive nuts. i dont mind mailing to the States

The studs are definately 1/4 BSF. I have just replaced some.
