missaligned

Post by Peetee »

Has anyone come across this little problem before on a front panel?

Behind this is a very small lip so drilling and trimming the radiator panel isn't really a straightforward fix.

It's not clear from your picture- which panel has been replaced with new??

Out of the front panel, the cowel panel and the engine bay, two of the three must line up, which one is out?? Is the cowel panel too long?? in which case cut off the excess, weld up the wrong holes and drill new holes in the right place. The Cowl panel being a flat sheet is the easiest to work on and being the least visible in the car is the best to modify.

Does the outer front panel match up to the engine bay??? If it is short you may need to add a strip at the bottom n drill new mounting holes. The front panel is partly hidden by the front bumper/ bumper valence assembly to small discrepancies are hidden, provided it can all be bolted back together!

This is why it is a great idea to trial fit all panels before final prep and paint!!!!
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Pretty much as above - they are never a perfect fit - but that's a LONG way out..... Did it all apart for the painting - or is this a melange of parts from different cars - coming together for the first time?

Ah-ha! good point!
I noticed this when the panels were off the car, then hung them in-situ for the photo.
It's the rad support panel that is too long so I have drilled through that to the (vertically, if not horizontally  ) aligned front panel holes. I'll trim off the excess and hopefully all will be well.
Cheers!
