Oil thrower, which way round please?

Information I have:-
Workshop manual says concave side forward (AA.23) though this also mentions the felt washer so is the older engine.
Haines manual page 27 diagram shows concave side facing forward away from engine.
Haines manual page 40 picture caption says concave side facing back toward engine.
Haines manual page 45 says fit the oil thrower concave side forward
Also I’ve read side with an “F” facing forward, “F” being written on the convex side
I assume as mine has a rubber oil seal with a coiled spring thing in, that my thrower is (going by previous old threads I’ve read) the later flat type, even though it is not perfectly flat and has a slight concave and convex side.
Please, is it “F” facing forward away from engine.
A little second question, my end of camshaft cog has a small piece on the inner outer edge missing, about ¾ inch long by ¼ inch, will this upset the balance and cause vibration
