Apathy rules OK
The problem is no one understands body numbers or why they are different from chassis numbers.
It has taken 20 years to gather the info in the Series MM register and cars are still being added so keep at it. It gives you an excuse for peering under bonnets at rallies

Don't know whether or not you have - don't record their regn numbers...
Cheers

I think enthusiasts will only appreciate my efforts when it's saved them from buying a "ringer"!
The current "Minor Cab/Body dating guide" is surprisingly accurate - not bad for just over a months' work!
It's a shame,but apathy wins again!!

appaty is part of our ocident and christian culture! Look for the international news in the media about your National bad time,
there are always escuses for the bandit and terrorism acts!
Sorry to tell that but here in Portugal we will have the same if the Portuguese Autorities did not saw your situation as a bad example!
Ofcorse I'm able to tell this in this forum, because have answered to your answer, and from my side i think is very important matter!

Hi
As I'm new to this I'll put my twopeneth in and see what comes out.
My LCV was origonally a 1971 van. Sometime since then it's back was removed and replaced with a wooden pickup affair, so that back no was lost along with it's boby number.
About 2 years ago the previous owner I bought it from replaced the wooden pick up with a 1958 van back. This was extensivly rebuilt with most new panels including roof supports and gutters. Even If I new where to look I doubt the body number would still be there. The cab is pretty much the same, origonal but rebuilt if that number was found it wouldn't give accurate data as they wern't a married pair in the first place.
If you point me in the right direction I'll look for the numbers as it is now and forward them to you.
Why don't you record reg numbers against body numbers? would this not then make it easier to keep a list of all numbers recorded and help to identify "ringers" should one pop up.
I read a post POMMreg (i think) made about millions numbers I wondered what the pink cars had to do with it, then I realised it was the quantity of cars made versus vans etc lol...

Registration numbers are not a reliable method of recording vehicles since plates can easily be transfered from one vehicle to another. This is particularly true of older more desirable registrations. The most reliable method is to record the vehicle chassis number.

Yes,the important number is the one STAMPED into the bulkhead - this number should correspond with the number ON the chassis plate AND the body number should match the age of the vehicle.
Do not rely too heavily on the information contained ON the chassis plate, it's only held on by two self tappers!!

I agree fully, but if someone had a record of ALL a vehicles numbers as a matched set so to speak IE Reg No: ABC 123K with chassis No: abc123467bgv and body No: qwerty123. Then the right "combination" would confirm its authenticity

Been doing this above for LCVs since the late 80s!!
55,000 LCVs by 2012?!!!
Doubt it!

Minor LCVs don't have the back-up of their chassis numbers STAMPED into their bulkheads.
Therefore,I record every snippet of info; Chassis/Reg/Cab & Engine nos.
ie; ABC 123C turns up with a matching (screwed on) chassis number but a WAY out cab number, something is wrong!!

Yes,the important number is the one STAMPED into the bulkhead
I'm being dumb. I simply cannot find any numbers stamped into my bulkhead.
I've got the body number plate on the RHS of the bay, on a little plate near where the bulkhead meets the scuttle - and I've got the chassis number plate but no sign of any numbers punched directly into the bulkhead anywhere.

Have you contacted Cam??? He was a user and moderator who was active on this site a few years ago. I seem to remember he was collecting body numbers and trying to make sense of them. Maybe you could combine forces and information fore the greater good???

The stamped on number should be - looking in the engine bay - between the bonnet release rod & throttle exit.
