Which way up does my Headgasket go??

I seem to have bought a Head Gasket which is NOT imbossed TOP FRONT.
No instructions on pack and the young shop assistant did not know what I was talking about.
The gasket has a metal finish on one side, and non metal surface on the reverse.
It may not make a difference, but it might.
Any Ideas?
Regards Don

Typically, the folded over part goes on top. Look at the old one when you remove it, to see which way it is.

i normally go for shiny side to block. but do check that you wont be blocking any holes whichever way you choose to fit it. it's a pain to put it all together and run it, only to find no oil getting up to the rockers!

It doesn't matter, as long as it slips over the studs - but I have to say - that type of gasket would NOT be my first choice...........

Having replaced a few BMC head gaskets over the last couple of years, these seem to be the only ones you can get from most motor factors

Another good reason to carry a spare copper faced gasket in the car.....
