Green Flag Warning

Green Flag offer and excelent service, freindly and fast.
But this week when my head gasket blew they refuse to assist. :(
Although I have cover for any vehicle, any aparently means less than 16 years old.

We had just purchased a new second morris. They will assist older cars BUT the older car MUST be the one on the policy.
Next year I will revert to classic car insurance with roadside recovery.

I suspect AA and RAC may have similar 'get out' clauses..... the deal with RH Classic Insurance is unbeatable - including as it does Roadside help and Recovery if necessary - even from Europe!

I can highly recommend the AA, never had a problem with them when Ive had to use them including a recovery from Southern Ireland which is classed a European breakdown.

I used a mates RAC to recover my last one.

We had to get her to drive out to meet me and pretend to be a passenger in the morris whilst someone else drove her car back home.

Good to hear the AA and RAC have worked well for some - I'm sure I have read of refusals though...... The deal through an Insurance Co (ie RH - but probably also others) is surely unbeatable for Classic cars.......

I'm with the rac and get 5 call outs a year but its personal insurance so if I'm in any car driver or passenger they will come to the rescue which the have done over 10 times with no problems

Sam i havent heard of that before as i was in a friends car which snapped a cambelt and my AA did not cover me in his car .The personal insurance how does that work ? or maybe its because i have it through my company and covers four vans seperately but i was also on a private policy with my car

Rac has 2 different policy's one is vehicle cover - covers one vehicle only for anyone using it,
Other is personal cover - which covers you as long as you are a driver or a passenger in any car, which is what I'm on
I'd does not cover commercial vehicles and only 5 free callouts a year
I have used it for loads of different cars over the year and never been let down, they even paid for me and my friends taxi fair home after car went to the garage

RAC recovered my 3500kg gross transit several times using personal cover (its not specified as a specific vehicle) and they have also recovered the minor a couple of times

In 25 years of driving I have never subscribed to any of these organisations. I have always sorted myself out, never needed them and never will do.

I had a chain snap on a 1976 Honda pedal and pop moped last year and the AA got to me within 30 minutes, however having told them that no roadside repair was not possible they sent a 2 car low loader to pick me up. The very nice chap took one look and burst out laughing before putting it in the back section of the double cab instead of on the load bed.

I am not renewing Green Flag this year as to cover the 59 Minor they want an additional £65 in premium so have gone back to Auto Aid http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/

Why you may well ask, well it's £38.00 a year and that covers me and my wife for any car were driving, whatever the age, so for those of you with a small 'fleet' of classics you only use on a limited basis it's ideal.

Downside, well you have to pay the recovery charge yourself and submit the receipts to get your money back.

However that is not an issue as I had to claim once when I had the C4 and stupidly put unleaded in the Diesel tank (I know, what an idiot) and they paid out with no issue.

Full cover details are here: http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/works01.htm and they will answer any queries over the phone.
